Macro rectifier - transformers:

IDT recently launched a research project that consists on developing a new technology for the manufacture of Macro rectifiers- transformers, introducing several technology innovations that aimed to make designs with greater energy efficiency.

The company is considering in a short-term period, the production of a macro rectifier- transformer prototype with a standard capacity of 45 kA cc and 200 V (9 MW), this equipment also considers a flexible topology of connections that can be used as a replacement unit faced to a fault in any rectifier- transformer.

Solution’s warming in altitude:

At present, IDT is participating, along with the University of Chile, Federico Santa María Technical University Federico Santa María and Anglo American Chile, in the Fondef D05I10098 project, of 3 years, whose main objective is the development of modern technology for the warming of bioleaching solutions of copper in altitude.

The idea of this project is that with temperature increases of the solutions in some grades, significant increases in copper production are achieved. To date, an IGBT technology inductive heating prototype has been developed. A prototype based on resonant investors, which is being evaluated through laboratory and simulations experimental results.

Gold Project:

In 2005, IDT developed an inductive melting system for the recovery of precious metals present in the anodic mud, a byproduct of the copper electrowinning process.

To demonstrate the high efficiency of the system, IDT is developing a mobile foundry plant that will allow field demonstrations. It also contemplates to make a tour around the plants that make the recovery process of precious metals, in order to promote the use of this new system.

Support for Universities:

IDT has the policy of supporting applied research work developed at universities in Chile. Currently, a study on interface reactor for ANSI 45 and ANSI 46 configurations of high-current rectifiers is in its final stage, which considers new design criteria to mitigate the acoustic noise and vibrations, which has the support of TUSAN Transformer’s Factory.

In this same direction, it is a company policy to participate in special events to share knowledge and experiences. IDT participated in IEEE ISIE 2008 and in the near future it will participate in Hydrocopper 2009, ICIE IEEE 2009.

Future Development:

IDT is currently working on the design of new transformer-rectifier emergency equipment, which allows that with minor changes there could be a wide range of voltages and currents in the loads. The next step in the development are the mega rectifiers of a 200 kA @ 400Vcc order, 12 pulses, used mainly in chlorate electrolysis.
